I'm not an SVG user however I'm asking my self, after the acquisition of Macromedia is there any reason to continue to use SVG?
SVG is still gives more problems than flash for the dummy user, why should I use it?

cheers,
giulio

I would say SVG and Flash are not incompatable. Some of the advantages of SVG are that many browsers are starting to support SVG without a plugin (Firefox already supports it and Safari is quickly behind, while IE is going dragging and kicking) ... the recent news of Adobe not supporting the popular SVG viewer in the future may not be bad news....it is possible they may be trying to migrate all their popular file formats (svg, pdf, & svg) into one super plugin. Another great reason to use SVG, it that it is a standard which integrates very well with other technologies (eg: cell phones, internet appliances, etc). Flash, although extremely popular, will always be plugin based and the .fla format will always be a proprietary file format. This will make developers thing twice about utilizing it in their projects.

Hi.
I´m working on a web-based city map, and I´m looking for the best way to do it, I´m using Flash for the animations, zoom effects, drag and drop stuff, and database connection etc. but I´ve a got problem: well, for now my map application uses an image of the map and that, of course, is not convenient because of the file size. I was thinking about drawing the whole map in Flash, then cutting it into smaller squares (swf format) and making my application load each of these when the user required it, it doesn´t sound really cool, but it may work. Today I visited some pages (http://www.web-maps.net/MapFactory/skins/web-maps/mapa_callejero.php?i=2 AND <http://www.web-maps.net/web_maps/CAST/tecnologies.php)> that actually use SVG with flash to draw the maps, and I guess that´s the best way to do things, but I don´t have a clue about how to do that. So I could really use some help about Flash and SVG combination, please, if you have any info, tutorials or anything, e-mail me at ***@yahoo.com. Thanx!

I believe SVG has the advantage when graphing live data. I use it with a data logging application that runs on a microcontroller so flash would not really be an option there. Using SVG as a replacment for flash for ads on websites would probably not be a good idea. (unless you are trying to get them to people like me that don't use Flash because of all those annoying flashing ads).
